Air vents? What the hell are they good for? Try some fresh Ambassadors top and bottom.
Why don't these things have air vents in them? I have a maple 6.5x14, and It's starting to sound really choked to me. I'm ready to toss it in the drink...

umm...yeah it's not the heads. I could not find any opening in that aluminum section, but I probably need to remove the heads.
I guess I could be deluding myself about what air vents would add to this drum though.

Seriously email me if you don't want it.
Ive got a 14x5 Free Floater and I love it. I always thought it sounded very open, definitely not choked. Maybe its just your tuning. I tend to tune mine really high.
Yeah, I think I won't be tossing it the drink on second thought. I will be likely putting it up on eBay though. The drum sounds very chocked to me even with new heads. I am not getting anywhere with my tuning efforts. This is a very high quality drum though in steller condition, even if we have grown apart. PM me if you want to make me an offer I can't refuse.
That's funny. The Pearl Free Floating drum always scores well in the Snare Drum Olympics blind listening test. Lots of other, more highly praised drums, don't score so well when the judges can't actually see the drum they're evaluating. Double check your tuning.

Sounds like I need to triple check my tuning...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">With the principe Pearl found for this snare she had less contact between leg and shell then any other in the world, even Noble & Cooley have 1 contact per lug Originally posted by Vdrummer:
